FAQs

Why does the Star Note Lookup say my note was printed in Washington D.C. while the Federal Reserve Bank seal says differently?

There are two facilities that print US currency, Fort Worth and Washington D.C. but distributed to the 12 Federal Reserve Banks for circulation.

Can you recommend good currency reference books?

If your interest in currency is limited to Small Size notes (series 1928 to present), We recommend The Standard Guide To Small-Size US Paper Money 1928 To Date.

If you also need information about pre-1928 paper money (Large Size notes, Fractionals, Confederate currency, National Banknotes, etc.) consider these:
Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money
A Guide Book of United States Paper Money
For more information, see the Paper Money of the United States, the standard reference on American currency since 1953.

Where should I sell my notes?

You can buy and sell currency notes to ebay but watch out for the fees. You can sell a $100 bill for $115 and can cost you money after fees + shipping costs.

Is is the right thing to hold onto this note?

It's up to you to decide. You can collect, sell, deposit, or spend with your own judgement. If you find joy and interest in collecting a certain type of note, collect it. There is no rule saying that notes must be rare or valuable to be collected so it wll be on your own discretion.

What is my STAR Note worth?

We'll never know! It would take time and effort to appraise your STAR Note.

Why does the Star Note Lookup says it was printed in 2019 but my note say it is series 2017?

The series changes when there is a redesign of that particular note or when the Treasurer of the United States and/or Secretary or the Treasury is replaced where their signatures appear on the front/bottom of the note.
